Moses McCray one of the stars of Tampa, Florida is dead at the age of 34. We are going to miss one of Tampa’s most highly decorated players to ever play at Hillsboro and Middleton High School.

Moses McCray was born on January 12th, 1990 in Tampa Florida. He attended Middleton High School from 2005 to 2006, before transferring to Hillsboro High School where he graduated in 2008. Moses ended up making himself a highly decorated Prospect composite score of 8972 county out of Hillsborough High School.

Ultimately most decided to go to Florida State University which was Bobby Bowden’s last recruiting class. Odell Higgins and Lawrence Darcy were the main coaches that recruited McCray at the time.

From 2008 up to 2012, Moses finished his career at Florida State with 24 games played 10 unassisted tackles, 14 assists, and a fumble recovery. Moe had a very hard career at Florida State with injuries to his ACL and shoulder.

He would eventually decide to transfer within his last year with another Bowden. Terry Bowden decided to give Moses McCray another opportunity at Akron which Moses did take advantage of.

That 2013 season Moses finished with 24 total tackles, two tackles for a loss, and one QB pressure. It was just enough to allow him to get a shot at the NFL, eventually landing with the New Orleans Saints.

He was eventually cut and McCray decided to retire. Moses’ success with short-lived but many of his former teammate’s coaches were still proud of him on and off the field.

I remember like yesterday when Moses ran 100 meters against Tampa’s fastest 100-yard sprinters those sprinters were being clocked at an average of 10.5 to 11.5. I would never forget it Moses ran an actual 12 flat as a sophomore in high school against some of the best sprinters in Hillsborough County.

I also remember Moses running with some of the track guys. And it’s hard to see a big guy who was 6’2 and 260 pounds, running with some of your long-distance sprinters and runners. I had never seen Moses in the back of that group. Moe was always upfront and in the middle, running up Osborne and 26th Avenue in Tampa, Florida. I’m very proud to call Moses McCray my teammate my brother and a great father during this transition of death.

We Love You Moe

The City of Tampa is going to miss you, man! Rest In Paradise!
