Player Summary:
Fifth-year LB with ample height/weight measurements, a mesomorphic build, and an athletic frame with intriguing growth potential to add 10-15 pounds of muscle mass. Played three seasons at Independence C.C. (KS) before transferring to Florida A&M, where he earned back-to-back SWAC First Team honors in his two seasons with the Rattlers. Lined up at SAM and served as a captain in FAMU’s 4-2-5 base defense. Possesses sharp play diagnosis and requisite pre-snap alignment to create advantageous leverage post-snap. Offers a physical presence between the tackles. Brazenly seeks/absorbs contact in the first level, engaging with striking hands, potent play strength, and great lower-body flexibility to remain upright at the POA. Lines head up over the 2, 4, and 6 techniques and uses sudden initial quickness to penetrate interior rushing lanes. Exhibits sharp blitz timing to cross the LOS as a free rusher and cause disruption in the backfield. Takes a tight angle into the backfield by cutting directly off the backside of pulling guards on gap scheme run concepts. Utilizes decisive instincts to trigger downhill in pursuit of the ball. Offers sufficient and lateral mobility to chase the ball from sideline to sideline. Although he might not boast top-grade play speed, he compensates with high intensity and a relentless motor to rally to all ranges of the field. Displays well-developed blitz-peel technique to scrape down the LOS to cover tunnel screens or swings/flats/arrows out of the backfield. Reads & reacts to slip screens out of the backfield at an elite level using strong awareness and advanced FBI. Provides quality reactionary quickness and vision to keep contain in QB spy situations. Gains adequate depth in Tampa 2 ⅓ coverage and maintains eye contact on the QB when sliding into spot-drop coverage. Proved to have capable ball skills to convert misplaced throws into interceptions in crucial passing situations at the end of games. Recorded noteworthy tackling & TFL production in 24 games as FAMU’s starting ILB. Seems to have a nose for the football, which will help his chances of earning playing time on special teams at the next level.
Scheme Fit:
SAM LB in a 4-3 or 4-2-5 defense. Placing Major at SAM will allow him to make a greater impact against the run, as he has shown the ability to set an edge, fill interior gaps, rush the passer, and efficiently drop into hook/curl/flat zone coverage.
Power Statement:
Major is a quick-witted LB with active read/react, instinct/awareness, and vision to stay a few steps ahead of the play before the ball is snapped. He is a tough-minded competitor with a versatile skill set who can take over games when he is playing at his highest level. He can hold his own at the POA in the first level, cover the MOF in spot-drop coverage, quickly fly down to the flats to follow the running back out of the backfield, and navigate his way into the backfield to rush the passer or stuff runs before they reach the LOS.
