Patriots vs Chiefs Preview | Thoughts on Malik Cunningham to Ravens

The 3-10 New England Patriots have been eliminated from the 2023-24 NFL Playoffs, it is unfortunate but we saw it coming. The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a heartbreaking loss vs the Buffalo Bills, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Tight End Travis Kelce are going to play their hearts out this week after the tough loss.  The New England Patriots had one of their best Offensive Games in YEARS vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is going to be a great head to head week 15 matchup.

Is the Patriots Offense Momentum Building up?

This Bailey Zappe lead offense was on fire, everyone was playing a role in this offense.  The team seems more connected with Zappe being the signal caller. Zappes favorite target was Ezekiel Elliott, the veteran RB recorded seven receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.  Ezekiel Elliott played his best game as a Patriots vs Pittsburgh with 22 carries for 68 yards with an average of 3.1 yards per carry. Can New England keep their momentum vs a tough Kansa City Defense? Or will the momentum fade away vs the defending Super Bowl champions?

Can Patriots Defense stop the struggling Patrick Mahomes led offense?

No matter how horrendous this season has gone the Patriots defense deserves some praise for attempting to keep the games close. You can make the case that the Patriots have facing struggling offensive teams for example the Steelers, Chargers, Giants, and Colts. The Chiefs are better than all four of the teams previously listed; however, you can put the title “Struggling” Next to the name Kansa City Chiefs. The two names to worry about when facing the Chiefs offense are Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. New England has a legitimate chance to shut down both of the talented players. Mahomes completed 25 of his 43 passing attempts for 271 yards with a touchdown and an interception vs the Buffalo Bills. The defending Super Bowl Champ hasn’t looked like that MVP type of caliber player for most of the year, his two favorite targets have been Rookie Wide Receiver Rashee Rice and Previously mentioned Tight End Travis Kelce. New England needs to shut down his two favorite pass catchers and force him to go elsewhere with the ball. Expect Safety Kyle Dugger to be covering Kelce and shadowing him every play, make sure to watch out for Jalen Mills as well. Jabrill Peppers will most likely be playing that Free Safety position, Expect an interception.

Rookie UDFA WR/QB Malik Cunningham to Baltimore Ravens

Malik Cunningham has been signed to the Ravens 53 man roster, it is unfortunate to see a fan favorite leave New England but its a business and how life goes. Cunningham was a phenomenal athlete who deserved a chance, now the QB/WR gets an opportunity with Baltimore.

Karver’s Final Thoughts:

I would expect New England to be doing a lot of Play action attack vs the Chiefs secondary, start off slow vs this team and work your way up. On defense expect the Patriots to bring loads of different defensive packages to try to make Patrick Mahomes make some mistakes.
