Player Summary:

Mark Redman is a 4th-year senior TE who became the full-time starter in his first season at SDSU. In SDSU’s 12 personnel base offense, he aligns both on and off the ball, and will sparingly be split out at receiver. Possesses good height and adequate weight. In zone blocking schemes, shows good agility and foot quickness when climbing to the 2nd level. Solid functional strength at the POA to turn out LBs and DBs on the 2nd and 3rd level. He turns and locks out edge defenders utilizing athleticism and strength. Moves well as a slicer across the LOS and scrapes tight with good technique. In limited reps, shows solid technique in pass protection with a desire to make an impact. A reliable security blanket in the passing game with soft hands, and shows great ability to adjust to underthrown passes on underneath routes to make the catch and turn upfield. Considerable hip fluidity to break on underneath flat routes with ease. His large frame with long arms helps him haul in passes outside his strikezone. Good mental processing to recognize holes in coverage and attack the voids. A tough competitor who does not take plays off. Displays marginal physical toughness both in the run game and in the passing game; needs a more physical engagement to hold his own and maintain leverage vs. edge defenders and bigger LBs. Must improve his hand placement to win leverage, as he often places them high and outside. As a receiver, displays marginal burst off the LOS and adequate acceleration to increase his speed quickly. Must increase his top-end speed to take the next step as a receiver. Needs to sharpen his intermediate/deep route-running to create better separation.

Scheme Fit:

Translates best as an in-line TE at the next level.

Power Statement:

Tall, lanky TE who shows good athleticism in zone schemes, strength at the POA, and is a reliable option in the underneath passing game. He must improve his physicality to take the next step, and his lack of speed and route-running hinder his potential as a receiving option.
