Player Summary:

RS Senior from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Long, lean frame. Room to add weight on both uppers and lowers. Flex TE primarily used as an H-back, frequently motioned out to slot or outside WR. Rarely has his hand in the dirt. High level athleticism, outstanding bend and ankle flexion. Some stiffness in hips, but impressive twitch and burst. Above average speed for his position, but high level acceleration puts space between him and defenders. Route running needs polishing, has a tendency to round off his breaks but gets away with it at the college level due to size and athleticism. Sometimes struggles to find soft spots in zone, would rather continue his route than break it off and settle in soft spots in the middle of the field. Adjusts to the ball well in the air. Competitive, fights for the ball. Impressive ability to box out defenders. Strong hands, consistently catches away from his frame. Consistent receiver, only saw one drop on film. Smooth runner, plays with balance as a ball carrier. Fights for extra yardage after contact. Average blocker for the position, but his limitations are based on size and not effort. Gets low and plays with good leverage. Can play out of control on open field blocks, struggling with hand placement and play off balance. Needs to do a better job of making pick plays look incidental. Well rounded player, but he will be an immediate asset to an NFL team as a pass catcher.

Scheme Fit:

Projects as an H-back TE with huge upside in the passing game with adequate blocking ability to stay on the field

Power Statement:

High potential pass catcher with adequate blocking ability, Smith projects to be an instant contributor on obvious passing downs and can be a pro-bowl starting TE as a professional with physical development.
