There was a report that 10 deaths have been caused by dangerous rip currents off Florida and Alabama beaches, but Ryan Mallett’s was not one of them, according to authorities.

There are reports now coming out of Florida that riptides did not play a role in the drowning death of former Arkansas Quarterback Ryan Mallett.

According to authorities, and their body cam footage released, Mallett, 35 died as he struggled to swim to a second sandbar about 150 feet from the beach. Lifeguards raced to rescue Mallett when he went under but he was not breathing when he was pulled out of the water.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, there were no crazy conditions either. They were under a yellow flag.

“The tragic loss of life, it’s always difficult when we lose a tourist or resident here, but we have no indication here of any dangerous conditions out there,” Sheriff Eric Aden said in a videotaped statement Wednesday.

“The entire Okaloosa County, as well as Destin, we’re not under red flags or double red flags despite some of the misperceptions out there.”

“We were under a yellow flag, which is just swim with caution,” he continued. “It just seems to be a tragic accident and not something to do with the conditions of the surf or tides or currents.”

This incident comes just a few weeks after one of Ryan’s players at White Hall was tragically killed before his graduation from high school.

Please keep the family and friends of Ryan in your prayers during this tough time.
