What makes you a top prospect at your position in the 2024 NFL Draft?
My arm power and accuracy are why I’m at the top of my positions draft class. Quarterback is an extremely mental position but having those physical capabilities and being able to read defenses the way I can is why I look forward to my pro days after this season is over.
At what age were you first interested in the sport of football?
I started kind of late as far as football goes, I first was drawn to football in 8th grade, the things I saw people like chad Johnson and Michael Vick doing on tv made me want to go out and do my best impersonation of them.
What is one thing that NFL teams should know about you?
I would have to say they should know is that they are getting a QB that can make every throw on the field and someone who is used to being uncomfortable. I’ve learned 4 different playbooks in my college career so there is never going to be a learning curve I can’t handle.
If you could donate to one cause in the world, what would it be?
Being adopted I’ve always wanted to do something for the foster care system or just kids who have been adopted. I think after living those situations first hand the thing I wish was available was just an outlet where I’m around people that understand.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Control what you can control, in the world of football 1 good game can change your life. I started 1 year of high school football and no one ever thought I would be able to accomplish everything I have but because I knew what I was destined for and because my faith in God’s plan for me was big I just focused on what I could control in terms of practicing and getting bigger and better.
Who was your childhood hero?
Chad Johnson hands down. Seeing someone with the same personality as me be himself on the biggest stages and never letting anyone change him was huge for me.
Who is the most underrated teammate in your locker room at your school?
I haven’t had a chance to get around my new teammates yet but the most underrated player I’ve ever played with was Blake Atkins. He’s one of the best qbs I’ve been around.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
When Receivers come up to me after I scramble or another receiver scores and they say “I was open but that was a good play”.
Overcoming adversity is what defines character, what was the hardest moment in your life to overcome?
Definitely when I was in the portal and I had picked out a school and was offered, even went down on a visit and signed. But a week later they called me and told me I no longer have a scholarship to that school. It was just a lot of hard conversations with god and myself and it made me reinvent things about me. It was enough to push me to where I am today.
Tell me something about your school and why it is so special to you?
My school is special because it’s a lot of guys that are overlooked, whether it be height, weight or the competition your school plays against. This school brings in those kids and gets the best out of them and gives them a chance on ESPN to show why everyone messed up by not taking them. There’s not to many places like that.
What is your favorite snack food?
For anyone that isn’t from Michigan you gotta go to Captain Jays and get the lemon pepper catfish, life changing.
What is the best part of football?
For me it’s easily the hotel stays and bus rides with my guys. People don’t understand we spend the whole month of august together all day everyday and it never stops. We know each other extremely well so it’s like a family. I don’t know any other sport where White, Black, Asian people and rich and poor people can all be equals for 60 minutes and none of that matters.
If you could sell yourself in one sentence what would you say?
If your looking for all the intangibles then I’m what you want, I come ready to play day 1 for any team.
If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be?
I would have to say Steve McNair. I can run if I need to but my ability to throw the ball is my biggest attribute. We are both big QB’s but still very much mobile.
If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Chad Johnson because he’s a marketing genius. Tom Brady to learn how he watches film and Jonny Cochran because I’m studying to get my law degree and I have always wanted to learn from him how to conduct myself in the court room.
