Player Summary:
RS Senior. 4 year player at Maryland prior to transfer. Shorter, stocky player with thick lowers. Prototypical RB build. Exclusively lines up as the right outside receiver at USU. Never came off the field in the games I watched. Gets off the line quickly, but struggles to shake above average press coverage. Impressive acceleration in the route stem and has the capability to break off routes in an instant. Does not run polished routes, but does a good job of subtle hand fighting to create space between himself and the defender. Shows good fight for the ball. Struggles with drops. Has some twitch but lacks the physicality to break tackles, so his upside as a ball carrier is somewhat limited. Not an extremely physical blocker, but shows effort and can sustain blocks against smaller defenders. Does a good job of closing the distance between him and the defender, but is slow to engage at times. Good speed and quickness, but needs to be developed before becoming an impact player for a professional team.
Scheme Fit:
Projects to be a rotational slot receiver that can create space with his quickness and speed. Needs development of route tree to reach his potential in this role, but his raw physical traits translate best to being an inside receiver that uses motion to prevent him from being properly pressed.
Power Statement:
Athletic receiver with a RB build, Cobbs is a raw player with a high ceiling. Projects to be a practice squad player next year with the potential to make the active roster with a season or two of experience.
