Did the NFL single out Jon Gruden’s emails? Gruden believes so and is now suing the NFL
Jon Gruden never once denied in his lawsuit that he sent the emails about NFLPA Union President DeMaurice Smith, but he is alleging the NFL is targeting him and made some strong claims about the league.
According to documents obtained by David Ferrara of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gruden’s lawyers claim in the 21-page complaint that the league intentionally leaked damaging emails to force the former Super Bowl champion to step down.
“Through a malicious and orchestrated campaign, the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell sought to destroy the career and reputation of Jon Gruden, the former head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders,” the lawsuit states.
In the docs, Gruden points out that the NFL uncovered hundreds of thousands of emails as part of a larger investigation into sexual harassment allegations against the Washington Football Team, but the only emails that he claims the NFL leaked are the ones that implicate Gruden.
When they found one email, it sounds like the NFL tried to pressure Mark Davis to fire Gruden but he wouldn’t. Then the Gruden camp says that is when they pushed out more emails to the media to crush his character.
I mean it does sound like Gruden is the fall guy for the NFL because it takes away from their sexual allegations cases. I mean that is a way bigger problem right?
Could it happen? Sure! Did it happen? We will see what the courts think!
