Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the consensus favorite to win the 2020 NFL MVP award, with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson on his heels. There are some players I feel are destined for a huge year though, being overlooked.

Mahomes has become the youngest player to win both a regular-season MVP award and Super Bowl MVP honors before age 25. Mahomes has firmly earned the recognition as a bonafide star and franchise quarterback that the Chiefs can build around and find continued success for the next decade-plus. The question is how much will he make his next contract?  There are rumors he is looking for 50 million per year, if that is the case they will have to find players willing to take less to play with him to continue their success, or hit on every draft pick.

Right now, how is Josh Allen the Buffalo Bills quarterback worse than the field? I think the Buffalo Bills are going to do great in 2020. With Tom Brady now out the division, you have to love the Bills chances of winning their division.

I obviously feel the Ravens and Chiefs will be up there but even if the Bills can make a wildcard spot in 2020 they could turn some heads in the playoffs. We do not know what the Bills will do with a true number one receiver. Adding Stefon Diggs was huge for Josh Allen and the Bills. Diggs is one of the best pure route runners in the NFL, and they also have Cole Beasley another solid route runner playing the slot with speedster John Brown on the outside. The Bills are stacked on defense and if they can get something going behind young running backs Zach Moss and Devin Singletary they could be trouble.

Another sleeper is Drew Lock of the Denver Broncos. I think the Broncos did a great job to add talent around Lock. Can Lock take a huge step in year two? That is a good question, but the Broncos made sure he had tons of help going into year 2.

My favorite in the NFC to win the award is Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Think about it, Prescott added CeeDee Lamb in the draft, and their defense improved quite a bit by adding veteran defensive lineman like Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe. They also added ballhawking safety HaHa Clinton Dix. I think the Cowboys will win quite a bit of games in 2020.

The last non-quarterback to win the award was then-Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in 2012. Overall, 16 running backs have won the Associated Press NFL MVP, compared to 42 quarterbacks. No receiver has won the award, so I would not put too much money on the running back or wide receiver position.

The NFL has had a run of long-shot MVPs, with four of the past five winners having odds longer than 30-1, according to ESPN. Jackson won last season’s award after being 40-1 in the preseason, and Mahomes was 35-1 to start the season before he won the 2018 MVP.

Could a new quarterback like Jared Stidham or Joe Burrow take the ranks in 2020? I mean it would be a huge long shot but at +10000.  I do not see the Patriots or Bengals really dominating in 2020, but who knows.  Sleepers have won the award in the past. Who would have thought that Lamar Jackson was going to win the award last season? I didn’t believe he was going to take home the hardware but he did.
