Former Jaguars defensive back Donovin Darius was given Baker Act after arrest
Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Donovin Darius admitted to taking 20-30 pills and that he was suicidal at the time of his arrest this past weekend according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Darius was arrested and charged with DUI on Jan. 26 in Jacksonville following a low-speed crash in the parking lot of a bank.
Police found two bottles of the antidepressant Trazodone prescribed to Darius inside the center console his Kia Optima. A field sobriety test could not be performed because Darius was unable to stand on his own. He had slurred speech and could barely open his eyes, according to the arrest report.
Darius was placed into an ambulance with assistance from paramedics and told them he had taken 20-30 Trazodone pills and that he was suicidal. He was taken to a hospital under the Baker Act, which allows for a mental health examination.
Please keep Darius in your prayers, the former Syracuse All-American was a first round pick by the Jaguars and a player I grew up watching.
