Diamond Talk: Adam Trautman, TE, University of Dayton | A former QB with hands
Adam Trautman is the talk of NFL scouts right now. The Dayton tight end stands at 6060 and is probably the most talked-about small school player on the inner circles at this moment.
Trautman was a former quarterback who converted to tight end in 2016. He was also a standout basketball player for Elk Rapids in Williamsburg, Michigan. Adam still holds the school single-season and career record passing yards record, as well as the single-season all-purpose yards and single-season total touchdowns records. He was a stud quarterback, to say the least, but Dayton noticed something different in him.
After redshirting as a Freshman in 2015, and being named Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year, he began the conversion to tight end.
As a redshirt freshman, he started seven games and finished with 24 receptions for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Trautman really turned into a star as a Sophomore. The big, soft hand tight end started all 11 games for the Flyers, and led the team in receiving with 537 yards. He also recorded 5 touchdown receptions on the season.
Last year, Trautman was a dog, catching 41 passes for 604 yards and scored 9 touchdowns. This really caught the eye of the NFL scouts and another thing that really made them love Trautman is he is on the Academic Honor Roll.
This week Adam Trautman will have one of his toughest games of the year. He will be going up against Indiana State and Jonas Griffith one of the best linebackers in the nation. It will be great to see how he does against the Sycamores, but Trautman is not an easy player to contain. I expect him to put on a show for NFL scouts, and would not be shocked if several are in attendance for the Flyers first game of the year.
