2016 NFL Scouting Notes: Taveze Calhoun, CB, Mississippi State
2016 NFL Scouting Notes: Taveze Calhoun, CB, Mississippi State
Continuing with the Defensive Back position tonight we look at a player who surprised many as he broke out last season as a junior. Taveze Calhoun was not highly recruited out of high school, but he very well may make it to the NFL. Here are my notes:
Taveze Calhoun. 6’1 185 lbs. Mississippi State
The Positives
1) At 6’1 he has the height that many teams covet in hopes of defending today’s taller WR’s
2) A very good tackler for a CB
3) Appears to have good ability to correctly read the play
4) Athletic corner
The Negatives
1) Not asked to play much press coverage
2) Ok in zone coverage
3) Still raw and inexperienced
Calhoun is a tall athletic corner who likes to play physical and hit people. He is an above average tackler for a CB, and he appears to be able read the play correctly. He has good, not great speed, and is athletic enough to be able to play special teams, as a kick returner and on kick coverage. His coverage abilities need to improve this season, but with coaching and playing time he has a chance to become the kind of corner many teams are looking for.
