What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
What made me decide to be a football player was growing up and playing football for the first time brought me so much joy being on the field. And realizing what the game gives you, the life lessons it teaches you made me want to pursue it. Just having love for the game every time I step on the field is something that makes me want to be a football player every day.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
One of my favorite moments from my football life so far would be at the start of one of our games a team was driving on us and got into field goal range. Then on fourth down they went for a field goal and I blocked it to get off the field. It changed the tone for the rest of the game. So that is one of my favorite moments from my football life so far.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My dad inspires me the most because of the way he carries himself. With him being a veteran, he carries himself with pride and never lets anyone take that away from him.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
What I love most about the game of football is that it teaches you how to handle many different emotions and situations. The game constantly challenges you, whether you’re facing success, adversity, pressure, or setbacks, and it teaches you how to adapt and respond. Football has helped me become more resilient, disciplined, and mentally tough by teaching me how to handle whatever is thrown at me both on and off the field.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
A past football player I would choose to spend a day with would be Luke Kuechly. He is one of the smartest players I have ever watched, and I have always admired the way he understood the game. As a linebacker, being able to learn from someone who could read offenses, diagnose plays, and make the right decisions at such a high level would be an incredible experience. Spending a day learning football from one of the best linebackers to ever play the game would be both inspiring and valuable for my development as a player.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Aurora?
Some of my favorite things about playing football for Aurora University is the brotherhood we have. Everyone loves everybody on the team and we all are so close that we feel like family. Another thing I love is the support we get from the community and how the community shows up for us.
What should we know about Braedon Hellinger the person?
What you should know about me as a person is that I am a determined individual who always puts others first and makes sure the people around me are doing well. I enjoy seeing others succeed and pursue their goals, and I am always willing to help in any way I can. I believe in being supportive, working hard, and leading by example. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or in everyday life, I strive to make a positive impact on those around me.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
Cover 2 is my favorite defensive scheme as a linebacker because it allows me to play aggressively against the run while still helping in pass coverage. The two deep safeties provide support over the top, which lets me focus on reading the quarterback, covering short and intermediate routes, and making tackles. I like Cover 2 because it gives me opportunities to make big plays, like interceptions and pass breakups, while also being heavily involved in stopping the run.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I handle challenges in life and on the football field by taking things step by step. When a difficult situation comes up, I focus on understanding what is happening and figuring out the best way to respond. Instead of getting overwhelmed, I stay calm, assess the situation, and act accordingly. This approach helps me make better decisions, overcome obstacles, and continue improving both as a player and as a person.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get a player who is relentless and never gives up on a play, no matter how it unfolds. I am dedicated to the game and always give maximum effort, whether things are going well or not. I am willing to do whatever it takes to make a positive impact on the team, support my teammates, and help us achieve our goals. My determination, work ethic, and commitment allow me to contribute in any way possible to help the team succeed.
What stands out about your film the most?
What stands out most about my film is my pursuit to the ball. No matter where the play is going, I give maximum effort to get there as quickly as possible. Even when the play is moving in the opposite direction, I work hard to chase it down and make the tackle. My hustle, speed, and determination allow me to stay involved in every play and consistently help my team on defense.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
One of the most underrated players I played with was my high school running back Mark Melton. He was one of the most electric players I have ever played with being able to turn a game around in one run. Every time he touched the ball it was a threat of a touchdown.
