Pittmans Pocket: Prairie View and Howard Make Big Moves in 2026 HBCU Football Recruiting Class

A few programs in the HBCU football community are already making noise in the 2026 recruiting cycle with early commitments that could shape their future.

At Prairie View A&M, head coach Tremaine Jackson scored a major pickup with the commitment of William Blaylock II, a versatile athlete out of Cypress High School in Texas. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 220 pounds, Blaylock brings a rare combination of size, range, and speed to the Panthers’ class. Known for his second-level blocking and ability to finish plays downfield, the 2-star prospect adds immediate value on both sides of the ball. His physicality and football IQ make him a potential game-changer for Prairie View.

Meanwhile, Howard University head coach Larry Scott continues to elevate the Bison program to FBS standards. His latest win? Landing a highly recruited quarterback from powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna College Prep in South Florida. At 6’3″, 225 pounds, this 3-star signal-caller chose Howard over multiple FBS offers, including Middle Tennessee State and Navy. The athletic QB brings leadership, poise, and a championship mindset to D.C.—a perfect fit for Coach Scott’s ambitious vision.

Both Prairie View and Howard are proving early that they’re not just participating in this recruiting cycle—they’re competing to win it.
