Former Georgia Tech football player and wife murdered by their son-in-law in Alabama

A Roswell couple killed in Alabama this week were both retired lawyers who were remembered for successful careers and deep connections to metro Atlanta.
Michael McKenzie, 72, and Darla McKenzie, 68, were killed in a double shooting near Gadsden on Tuesday, according to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael McKenzie was a football player at Georgia Tech.
The couple were visiting their daughter and son-in-law when an argument broke out, and the couple was killed. Christopher Scott Johnson a 38-year-old, was arrested on a capital murder charge within hours of the shooting.
Michael A. McKenzie was a former Georgia Tech football player and a retired attorney based in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1974 and his Juris Doctor from Mercer University in 1977. Admitted to the Georgia Bar the same year, McKenzie specialized in subrogation and recovery law, practicing as Of Counsel at Cozen O’Connor LLP in Atlanta.

Johnson is currently in prison and will be there for a long time if found guilty.
