After one HBCU player drafted Deion Sanders takes a shot at NFL | NFL Executive Fires Back at Deion

Deion Sanders has a lot of love for Jackson State and HBCU’s and after the NFL Draft Deion was hot because only one HBCU football player was drafted.

Well, Deion took it to the NFL tweeting the NFL should be ashamed after only one player was selected from an HBCU.

Will McClay of the Dallas Cowboys though fired back at Deion after his comments were made. McClay said this to SI.com,

Deion’s doing a great job of promoting HBCUs and promoting Colorado and all those things. And so that’s part of what the deal is – he wants to see players drafted. We want to draft good football players and good football players come from everywhere. There’s not a conspiracy against drafting HBCU players. We’re looking for players that can come from anywhere. I think that we’ve had the opportunities in the NFL in having things to highlight the HBCU schools. I think the players have to have draftable grades.

HBCU football has come a long way, and after the draft almost 20 players were signed immediately by teams as UDFA’s from HBCU programs. There are tons of talent at the HBCU level, but it just wasn’t their year.
