PITTMAN’S POCKET: HBCU football continues to Trend Upward!

We have seen the success of HBCU recruiting and truly how dynamic it has innovated football in more opportunities, it is truly getting credit for once again.

HBCU trended well in the 50-60’s without any recruiting database system, and excelled a generation in the NFL which contributed to the Greats, with many of them landing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The HBCU shift is still in trend in 2023, and now with the substantial amount of society and football changes, HBCU football programs have contributed in this newly generation of recruiting with The Transfer Portal of any class.

Jackson State did well, with Detroit Lions Rookie James Houston a former University of Florida 4 star and transfer Portal player.

I believe more 5 star players will consider HBCU’s in the near future.

De’Jahn Warren was #1 overall JUCO Prospect and potential 2023 Draft pick. J.D. Martin JSU (JUCO) who can be a potential 2024 prospect for the NFL Draft, is another player who will help the future of the HBCU’s.

Then you have the great Freshman class that you are seeing who will contribute and continue to be dynamic.

2-2-2.

What does that mean?

  • 2 Incoming Top Rated Freshman and eventually Freshman All Conference or All American
  • 2 Transfer Portal players of any class
  • 2 top Junior College prospects who contributed to your HBCU program that year, who can potentially be NFL prospects that year or the next.

A 2-2-2= 6 prospects that HBCU coaches seem to be embracing. I believe this can change the recruiting process and innovate recruiting and better Professional Scouting.
