Can the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win back-to-back Super Bowl titles?

With the NFL’s 32 teams back in training, and pre-season matches getting underway this weekend, before the 2021 season kicks off on September 10^th — when 2020 Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will host the Dallas Cowboys at the Raymond James Stadium — fans of the American sport are already beginning to pick their Super Bowl LVIwinners in the NFL betting. 

Those who have already checked the betting markets will know that the Bucs are behind only the Kansas City Chiefs — last year’s Super Bowl losers. However, winning back-to-back Vince Lombardi trophies is an incredibly difficult feat. 

In fact, the last team to do so were the New England Patriots, who were guided to successive victories in 2003-04 by the Buccs’ very own Tom Brady. But not even the Patriots could replicate their own achievement, failing to defend their 2014, 2016 and 2018 titles. 

The Chiefs came close last year, and were heavily backed to win successive Super Bowls in the NFL betting tips, but ultimately, they fell short at the last hurdle, and were left red-faced as they succumbed to a 31-9 defeat to the Bucs down in Florida. 

The pressure is on the Tampa Bay franchise this season, especially for Brady — who will be feeling the heat under his padding after leading the Buccs to their first Super Bowl triumph since they beat the Oaklands Raiders 48-21 at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego way back in 2003. 

The esteemed quarter-back will be no stranger to the extreme pressure. After all, the five-time Super Bowl MVP has seven Super Bowl rings to his name, and as he enters the final year of his two-year contract at the Buccs, he’ll be hoping to add an eighth to his collection.

Again, he will be a key factor in whether or not Tampa can go all the way to the showpiece match at the SoFiStadium in California next February. He gave his teammates an almighty boost last season, picking their confidence up off the ground, and there are few players with the capability of joining a franchise who went 7-9 the season before and going on to turn them into Super Bowl champions. 

Of course, they went about their business the hard way last season, finishing fourth in the National Football Conference, meaning they had to win their three play-off matches on the road — a feat that just three teams had successfully completed in the past.

And, whilst they defied all the odds to beat Washington, the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers on their travels, booking their place in the Super Bowl LV final, which took place on home soil in Tampa, it wouldbe much easier for the Bucs if they were to just win the NFC South this season. 

The good news is that the Bucs have kept their core squad from last season, with all of their Super Bowl starters returning, including Brady, his good friend, former Patriot and four-time Super Bowl winner Rob ‘Gronk’ Gronkowski, who scored two touch downs against the Chiefs, and Antonio Brown, another scorer from the Super Bowl, whilst also adding seven draft picks. 

With the return of training camps and pre-season, which were missed last year due to COVID, the Bucs have the opportunity to get everybody in the squad aligned ahead of the upcoming season, and hopefully that can add a bit more consistency to their results. 

Defending their title will be no easy feat for the Bucs, especially with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes left licking their wounds from last season, but with Brady involved, rule them out at your peril!
