Family, friends, and teammates are mourning the loss of a high school football player who tragically passed away after practice last week.

Preston Malone III, a sophomore at Lancaster Early College High School, was a member of the JV football team and the beloved son of Antanette and Preston Malone II.

“He was a great kid, an awesome kid, and we are very proud parents,” his mother, Antanette, said.

According to Lancaster ISD, Preston reported feeling unwell during practice last Monday. Athletic trainers immediately followed UIL heat safety protocols and procedures. After initially showing signs of improvement, he was transported to Children’s Medical Center, where family members, including his grandmother Lisa Wynn, gathered to be by his side.

“I told him I loved him and he said he loved me,” Wynn recalled.

Preston’s condition suddenly worsened, and less than two days later, the 15-year-old passed away. His father, Preston Malone II, said he never wanted to leave the hospital without his son.

“I didn’t want to leave the hospital until I was taking my son home,” he said.

Please keep the Malone family in your prayers. This is horrible
