Green Bay Packers Release Pro Bowl Cornerback Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers have decided to release corner back Jaire Alexander. The Cornerback spent seven seasons as the best corner in Green Bay since being drafted 18th overall in the 2018 NFL draft. Alexander was set be a $16.15 million cap hit. The Packers were already middle of the pack in terms of Cap Space ranked 13th in the league. This move will help give an extra jolt to their cap space to improve other areas of the roster, such as defensive line, Offensive line and pass rush.
In seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Alexander proved himself to be a lockdown corner with great footwork, a proven ability to read plays and play physical press coverage on receivers. He logged 287 tackles, 12 tackles tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 12 interceptions and a pick six. He also locked down a bevy of great receivers including Justin Jefferson, who he held to one reception for 15 yards in their Week 17 matchup in 2023.
Along with being a great corner and defensive leader, Alexander became a fan favorite for his work in the Green Bay community, donating including donating $20,000 to the Toys for Tots campaign in 2022. This year he donated his entire $5 million signing bonus to various homeless relieve charities.
““There are millions of people struggling every day — families without homes, children without food, veterans without support. If I could be one of those people, I would want someone to help me. I’m committed to making a difference,” Jaire said in a social media statement regarding his donation.
He was also the leader of the Jaire Alexander X Green Bay foundation, dedicated to helping less privileged kids gain access to education, healthcare and empowerment programs.
His charity work earned him a lot of good will and respect from fans in Green Bay and across the NFL. Many fans have voiced their
” Hurt to my core, the last two years have been hard not having Jaire readily available but his energy on and off the field is irreplaceable,” wrote one fan on social media.
” The int he had against the cowboys in the last playoff game was amazing. I’m sad to see him go, another fan wrote on social media.
The Packers new number one corner is Keisean Nixon, a 27 year old who recorded 1 interception, 7 passes defended and 3 forced fumbles. While solid, the Packers will need to get another proper corner to pair along with Nixon if they want to be able to keep pace with the NFC North’s premier defenses in Minnesota and Detroit, all of whom have good or shut down DBs such as Harrison Smith and Brian Branch.
