Police say Kyren Lacy took them on a high speed race before ending his life

Tragic news emerged over the weekend as former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police chase in Texas on Saturday night, according to authorities.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a call involving Lacy, who had allegedly been in a domestic dispute with a family member and discharged a firearm into the ground. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Lacy had left the scene, prompting a search for his whereabouts.
Officials say deputies later attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Lacy fled, leading officers on a lengthy pursuit. The chase ended when Lacy crashed his vehicle in Spring, Texas.
According to authorities, when deputies approached the crashed vehicle and attempted to take Lacy into custody, they discovered he had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement the Sheriff’s Office said, “Preliminary information indicates Lacy shot himself during the pursuit and prior to the vehicle crashing. A handgun was recovered from the interior of the vehicle. A review of body camera and in-car dashcam footage from Precinct 4 deputies showed no indication that any shots were fired after the pursuit concluded.”
The Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Units are continuing to investigate the incident. As per standard procedure, the findings will be forwarded to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Civil Rights Division for review.
