What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I was in grade 11 and saw my high school football team play a game for the first time and thought to myself that I could hang with them. That’s what made me want to start playing football.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Winning the Vanier Cup (Canadian equivalent of winning the National Championship in college football) in 2023. From the preparation, to the pressure, to the elite matchups to lifting up the trophy with my teammates, those were my most memorable moments.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
To blossom into an elite professional football player who impacts any team he plays on.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Answer: Reggie White minister of defence, may he rest in peace. Top 2 best defensive lineman of all time who was a strong and devout Christian who feared God and had a strong passion for Christ! And he was stronger than a tractor.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My older sister. Seeing her be excellent in her own field and succeeding despite the different adversity she had faced was always was admirable to me growing up.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
Whenever the defensive coordinator gives freedom and leeway to the defensive linemen to either do what they want when rushing the passer or when he puts us in positions to have a true one on one. That’s a defensive lineman’s dream to hear one of those plays on 3rd and long.
What should we know about Jeremiah Ojo the person?
I’m really just a chill guy that loves Jesus, my family, my Nigerian heritage and football. Faith, family, and football baby.
What stands out about your film the most?
My speed and ability to force fumbles on the quarterback and ball carrier.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Every challenge happens for a reason and I know that there is a lesson that God wants to teach me. So I embrace every challenge and trial that comes my way because I know whatever happens will be for my good. It’s often in difficult times that the Lord wants to see where our heart posture would be. Are we still gonna thank Him and bless Him the same way we did when things were going well? Or will we doubt and forsake Him? Although it may be tough at times, looking back, I always see challenges as a blessing as they forge me.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A player who is relentless on the field and who is passionate about his craft ready to do whatever it takes to help contribute to his team.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
Football gives you a platform and you get to decide what you do with that platform. When I started playing football in Cegep (pre-university college system in Quebec), I told God that I am playing this sport so I can use the platform to glorify His name and spread His light.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Gabriel Maisonneuve, my fellow DE on the University of Montreal Carabins. His movement and agility is as smooth as butter and his spin move is unstoppable. He doesn’t get talked about as much as other defensive linemen but he is just as good and deserves to be in those conversations. I cannot wait for him to get the recognition he deserves.
