2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan

Watching Colston Loveland’s tape at Michigan, I was very intrigued by his potential ceiling as a pass catcher in the NFL, and overall ability to be one of the best tight ends in the league by the end of his rookie contract. Loveland has adequate speed for his size, he doesn’t possess break away speed, but has good movement skills and athletic ability with good long speed.
While he struggled with some concentration drops, Loveland has soft hands that can pluck the ball out of the air with a big catch radius. As a route runner, Colston is still developing, but he has good burst off the line with a nice release package and has a clear understanding of leverage when attacking defenders. He could stand to improve his route pacing if he wants to take the next step in this area. Loveland can win in contested catch situations, but it is not a particularly dominant aspect of his game.
He isn’t the strongest for his size either, and particularly struggled taking on contact against bigger competition. As a true separator, Loveland is as natural as it gets at the tight end position. He is still mastering some nuances, but has top notch potential as a separator in the NFL. His blocking on his tape was volatile, he is super tough and physical but lacks strength to sustain blocks at the next level.
Colston Loveland is a type of player who I think his lack of development in a few areas cause him to be talked about much less in draft media, but to me he has a high floor as a passing down weapon with the potential to be a top 10 tight end in the NFL. I would be comfortable using a first round pick on him in this draft class, and should firmly be in the conversation for the best tight end in the class.
