Olathe Man that was misidentified as the Kansas City Chiefs parade shooter was found dead

An Olathe man who was falsely linked to a shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade last year has passed away, according to his attorneys. Denton Loudermill’s lawyers, Arthur Benson and LaRonna Lassiter Saunders, told the Star in KC. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
Loudermill gained public attention after a photo surfaced of him with Kansas City police following the shooting incident at the February 2024 parade. In the wake of the shooting, Loudermill was wrongly accused of being involved, with social media posts from the Missouri Freedom Caucus, U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee, and Donald Trump Jr. falsely linking him to the event. His attorneys filed multiple lawsuits in recent months to clear his name, targeting individuals who amplified the false claims.

In February, Loudermill’s legal team filed lawsuits in U.S. District Court against former Missouri state senator and current Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, as well as state Sen. Rick Brattin. The lawsuits claimed the two lawmakers shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that wrongly identified Loudermill as both the shooter and an illegal immigrant.
Loudermill had been at the parade rally and was briefly detained by police after gunshots rang out. His attorneys stated that officers stopped him for moving “too slow,” and he was handcuffed and seated on the curb for about 10 minutes. A photo of him during this time was shared widely on social media, further fueling the false narrative. Loudermill was eventually released without charge.
In light of his passing, Loudermill’s attorneys have said that his family plans to continue the legal fight by substituting his estate as the plaintiff in the ongoing litigation.
