BACKGROUND: Donovan Ezeiruaku, a three-star recruit from Williamstown, New Jersey, committed to Boston College in 2020. He showed steady improvement throughout his college career, culminating in an outstanding senior season with the Eagles. In 2024, Donovan’s stellar performance earned him the Ted Hendricks Award. He recorded 80 total tackles, forced 3 fumbles, and ranked second in the nation with 16.5 sacks.

STRENGTHS: Donovan’s long arms give him a distinct advantage in one-on-one matchups, allowing him to keep blockers at bay. His smooth hips enable quick changes of direction in space, making him elusive and difficult to contain. He demonstrates an impressive ability to bend around offensive linemen, consistently finding his way to the quarterback. When pass rushing, his active hands are a key asset, helping him win battles at the line of scrimmage. Donovan’s versatility is evident as he lines up effectively at both wide techniques and shows the capability to generate pressure from the MIKE position. His strong football IQ is reflected in his ability to diagnose plays quickly and recognize the right moments to make a play on the ball.
WEAKNESSES: Donovan is undersized for the position, which can cause him to struggle against bigger offensive linemen. He needs to develop more of a pass rush arsenal, as he is over-reliant on a bend or swim move. He does not have a good bull rush, which hurts him when he tries to convert speed to power. He also has a tendency to work underneath the block, which can cause him to lose contain on the edge.
SUMMARY: Donovan has solidified himself as a top 50 player in the draft for me. His best fit are teams who run a 3-4 defense, allowing him to rush the quarterback from a wide technique. He can go anywhere from the back end of the first round, to one of the first picks on Day 2. Some team fits that I can see Donovan be a good match for:
- Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens are going to need pass rush help soon, and they usually do best player on their board with their picks. Ezeiruaku can give DC Zach Orr a young edge rusher to develop, while giving the Ravens a new edge rusher to help Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy.
- Los Angeles Chargers: Joey Bosa is in Buffalo, and Khalil Mack is returning on a one year deal. The Chargers don’t have any proven pass rushers outside of Mack, and they need to start investing into the position. Ezeiruaku might not be the flashiest prospect but he is a consistent player who could make Jim Harbaugh happy.
- New England Patriots: This might be a good match on Day 2 for the Patriots, given they can still use edge rushers to improve the league-low 28 sacks they had on defense. Ezeiruaku went to college in the area, so the Patriots are already familiar with him. He can fit spell Keion White and Harold Landry, while giving the new coaching staff a good young player to develop.
