With the Steelers opting not to move forward with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields as quarterback for next year, Pittsburgh remains in the running to sign Aaron Rodgers. Yet no clear timetable has come from Rodger’s camp.

After a 10-7 with relatively decent QB play from both Fields and Wilson. Pittsburgh decided to test out the free-agent market for a new signal caller. Yet Pittsburgh lost the race to Sam Darnold and other free-agent QBs, including Fields and Wilson, who signed with new teams. While Pittsburgh could always draft a quarterback, with only the 21st overall pick, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders will be out of reach, and past those names, the quarterback class looks relatively weak in comparison to other position groups. This leaves Aaron Rodgers as the only option to maximize Pittsburgh’s talent on defense.

Rodgers threw for 3897 yards and 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Despite this production, it wasn’t enough to take the New York Jets to the next level, and he was blamed for the disappointing season. The New York Jets’ offense with Rodgers under center was ranked 24th out of 32. It’s worth noting that Rodgers was also sacked 40 times after suffering a torn Achilles, and offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett failed to find success after leaving Green Bay in 2021.

Rodgers also received criticism from the media amidst a poor relationship with head coach Robert Saleh, who was eventually fired unexpectedly, which did no favors for Rodgers. Rodgers also received criticism for blaming WR Mike Williams for a game-losing interception. Even after the Jets traded for Davante Adams to reunite him with Rodgers and provide another weapon alongside Garret Wilson, Rodgers failed to formulate any good offense. By the end of the season, Rodgers was released by the Jets bringing an ugly ending to an era of hope for Jets fans.

Despite the risks, Rodgers is still a 2 time MVP and one of the best QBs in NFL history, and Pittsburgh has proven to be able to win games despite mediocre QB play. If Tomlin can get the best out of Rodgers, Pittsburgh would be a contender for the AFC North along with a dominant Baltimore Ravens and talented Cincinnati Bengals. Although, the only thing standing in the way of a contending Pittsburgh is Rodgers signing the dotted line.
