Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU Mid-Year National Signing Period Recap
The mid-year National Signing Period has wrapped up, and several standout players have made their commitments, adding excitement to the upcoming seasons. Here’s a look at some key signings:
Alcorn State
Coach Fred McNair and defensive coordinator Thomas went all-in, securing two major additions:
- Patrick Kince, a 6’1″, 175-pound cornerback from Coahoma Community College, joins the Braves’ secondary.
- Tykerrious Perkins, a 6’3″, 290-pound defensive lineman from Oxford High School (Mississippi), adds size and strength to Alcorn’s 2025 recruiting class.
Alabama State
Coach Robinson didn’t let the transfer portal slow him down. After losing a running back, he bounced back by signing:
- Devin “DJ” Brown, a 5’11”, 190-pound All-State running back from Russell High School. Brown is expected to bring additional power and speed to the Hornets’ already talented backfield.
Jackson State
Coach T.C. Taylor and recruiting coordinator Otis Ridley continue to impress, landing high-caliber recruits to strengthen their roster:
- Corion Mathis, a 6’4″, 247-pound defensive lineman from Holmes Community College. Mathis, who had offers from Boise State and West Virginia, brings experience and depth to JSU’s formidable defensive line.
- Tyree Weatherspoon, a 6’6″, 190-pound wide receiver from Lake Mary, Florida. He continues the Florida-to-Mississippi pipeline, joining fellow Florida product and current JSU receiver Joanes Fortilien.
