Tymon Wells, DL, Jackson State | 2027 NFL Draft Prospect Zoom Interview
Tymon Wells returned to Jackson State for a fifth season, putting himself in position to emerge as one of the top HBCU defensive line prospects in this draft class. A powerful and versatile presence along the Tigers’ defensive front, Wells brings the strength, toughness and competitive edge to set the tone up front. He is a disruptive run defender capable of controlling gaps, absorbing blocks and shutting down running lanes, while possessing the power and quickness to collapse the pocket. Wells plays with a relentless, physical demeanor and has the lower-body strength to move offensive linemen off the ball, evidenced by his ability to squat 650 pounds. His versatility allows him to line up at multiple positions along the defensive front, giving Jackson State flexibility to move him around and create matchup advantages.
Wells’ impact extends beyond his physical abilities, as he brings strong leadership and accountability to the defensive front. He is a nasty, competitive player who consistently plays through contact and possesses the strength to dictate the line of scrimmage rather than simply react to it. His combination of size, leverage and power makes him difficult to move, while his ability to generate interior pressure adds another dimension to his game. Wells has developed into a dependable centerpiece for Jackson State’s defense, and his return for a fifth season gives him another opportunity to showcase his complete skill set. A former co-valedictorian at Simmons High School, he also brings a proven commitment to leadership and excellence away from the field. With his versatility, physicality and disruptive ability, Wells has the potential to become one of the most impactful defensive linemen in the HBCU ranks this season.
