Player Summary:
Nick DeGennaro is a 5th-year senior WR with two seasons of starting experience. He typically aligns at outside receiver both to the field and boundary. Possesses a solid height/weight combination with an athletic build. Average athletic ability with quality hip fluidity and acceleration. Solid burst off the line-of-scrimmage and utilizes stutter-steps and head fakes early in the route to separate. Ordinary change-of-direction skills and twitch to snap off at the top of his route. Considerable foot quickness to chop his feet and break down quickly on hitches and comebacks. Shows toughness throughout the duration of the route to hold his own against physical DBs. Notable start-stop speed helps him sit down and attack holes in coverage to pick up easy yards both in structure and in scramble drill. High points the ball with soft hands, and hauls in passes both in and away from his strikezone. Advanced ball tracking skills and body control as he has made some very impressive catches at awkward angles. Maintains control of the ball through contact. Good balance on tackling attempts to stay on his feet and fight for yards-after-contact. Needs to polish his route-running; runs a limited route tree. Insufficient top-end speed to be a quality deep threat and separate regularly at the next level. Lacks the nastiness and desire nor the strength to excel as a run blocker.
Scheme Fit:
Projects best as a rotational outside WR at the next level who can utilize his processing speed, catch radius, and short-area burst to attack holes in coverage and create easy yards for his QB.
Power Statement:
Nick DeGennaro is a WR prospect whose mental processing, start-stop ability, dexterity, and toughness could make him an enticing developmental possession WR at the next level. He needs work as a route-runner and blocker in space, and his fringe speed will make it a more difficult transition to the next level.
