Player Summary:
Kydran Jenkins is a 5th year senior at the University of Purdue. 2021 and 2022 were solid years for him, but his outstanding 2023 season has put him in the spotlight. Solid height and good physical frame for his position. Has a good first step off the ball with good bend/flexibility to change levels and corner edge. Solid hand technique as a pass rusher with his placement and hand technique. Overall, solid pass rush plan as he possesses a good rip move around the edge. Solid physical strength and ability to win with power, struggles to finish with bull rush but does provide a quality push. Has a good up field burst vs run to shoot outside the gap and beat pullers to spots. Sets a strong edge on the perimeter, extends arms well to create space and shows good block shed ability. Good tackling ability between gaps vs the run. Plays with a good motor to pursue the ball carrier until the whistle blows. Underrated versatility as he can create havoc on the interior with his quickness when rotated there. Toolbox is a bit thin outside of rip, lacks counter/doubles moves to keep his opponent guessing. Needs to add muscle to frame to improve his ability to win with power and finish consistently with his bull rush. Tendency to over pursue and get lost on misdirection/play action plays. Adequate sideline-to-sideline speed to chase down perimeter plays against ball carriers with plus speed. While a solid athlete overall, does not have much of a feel in coverage and shouldn’t be relied on in that area.
Scheme Fit:
3-4 OLB
Power Statement:
Kydran Jenkins is not the twitchiest athlete you’ll find, but he does have a quality first step and flexibility to win on the edge, with the versatility to rotate inside and create interior pressure as well. Growth is still needed as a pass rusher to improve his toolbox and add to his frame to make him more of a threat as a power rusher. Overall, Jenkins has potential to be a starter at the next level, or at the least, a quality depth piece on a defensive line.
