Player Summary:

Jordan Turner is a RS SR who played at WIUN for 3 years and transferred to MIST to play in 2024. At WIUN, he played primarily in a 3-3-5 defense, and at MIST he plays primarily in a 4-2-5 defense. He has solid height and solid weight with a muscular build and slender midsection; he appears to have very good length throughout his body. Has very good overall athleticism with very good acceleration, speed, COD, and balance; good agility, flexibility, and leaping ability, and adequate lateral quickness. Jordan has very good overall zone-cover skills as he understands his zone assignments and diagnoses plays quickly. He is good at keeping his eyes on the QB and using his peripherals to watch for route runners in his zone and uses very good acceleration and speed to break on the pass, but can occasionally overpursue and be out of position to make a play on the ball or take down the receiver on the initial hit. His man-cover and mirroring abilities are adequate as he can get turned around losing sight of the QB and play development, but can normally stay close enough to his assignment to limit YAC. He has solid overall run-stopping ability using solid play recognition, very good speed to fill running lanes both inside on the edge, and solid ability to shed tackles; however, he can occasionally lose sight of the runner through traffic, overpursue, and less often lose gap integrity. He has marginal overall pursuit which is the result of often taking poor pursuit angles on runs to the outside and when the QB breaks out of the pocket. His tackling is solid overall as he has good one-on-one strength with solid positioning and footwork, but he can improve on his pad level to get lower than RBs and wrap his arms around runners better to finish more consistently. Jordan has very good overall pass-rush/blitzing skills from the LB position using very good timing, burst, and speed along with a good ability to avoid and shed blocks using shoulder dips, spins, and less often bull rushes. He displays good overall awareness during pass-rush to keep his eyes on the QB and get his hands up into passing lanes. Additionally, he has a solid ability to occupy two pass-blockers to open up pass-rushing lanes for other defenders. Slight improvements to his cornering techniques, pursuit angles, and finishing abilities could elevate him to an elite blitzing LB.

Scheme Fit:

4-3 MLB/WLB

Power Statement:

Jordan Turner has the ideal length and athleticism combination that is sought after at the NFL level at LB. He has good overall cover skills with very good zone-cover and adequate man-cover abilities using solid awareness and very good acceleration to break on the ball. He has solid overall run-stopping ability as he uses his very good athleticism to avoid blocks and get into running lanes quickly. His overall pass-rush/blitzing skills are very good as he displays very good timing, speed, and burst to apply pressure to the QB. If he can make even slight improvements in his tackling technique, pursuit angles, and finishing abilities, and he fits in well within the Michigan State defensive scheme, he should draw the interest of NFL scouts in the 2025 draft as a developmental prospect in the later rounds.
