A 15-year-old football player gunned down at football practice in New Orleans
A 15-year-old football player was shot and killed in New Orleans during a football practice. According to reports, Tyvien Jirouard, was killed, and a 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting near Evans Playground on Monday.
Neighbors say some members of the Sophie B. Wright football team were practicing on the field around 5:30, Monday afternoon when the shooting started.
Neighbors say kids scattered after nearly a dozen shots were fired at a vehicle near the field. They say the 25-year-old was the intended target, not the student.
Sophie B. Wright High School released this statement:
“Sophie B. Wright is saddened to mourn the loss of one of our students due to tragic violence within the community. We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. The student who lost their life was a beloved member of our school community with a promising future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.”
Police have not provided information about a suspect or motive in the shooting.
