What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Football is a big part of my family so I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. As a young Bears fan, watching Devin Hester was inspiring and certainly played a big role in my decision to play football and stick with it.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Amongst the many moments that I could recall, I’d say youth football practices, winning a 7v7 national championship with Midwest Boom, and college bus trips with my team at UW-Platteville stand out as some of my favorites.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
Although I draw inspiration from each of my family members, I’d say my dad has inspired me the most. He was a two-sport athlete at Navy (football and baseball) and went on to be a part of both the San Francisco Giants and LA Dodgers organizations. Throughout his athletic journey, he faced plenty of adversity and was able to overcome it. He has inspired me to do just the same throughout my own journey as a person and an athlete.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
There’s a lot to look forward to, but I’m mostly looking forward to another year of competing for the championship in the best conference in division 3 football, the WIAC, and for the National Championship. I’m also really looking forward to playing with both of my brothers, Garrett and Carter because I’ve never been on the same team as both of them.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
I would hang out with Cole Beasley so that I could pick his brain on his NFL experiences in different systems and with different quarterbacks. It’d be interesting to learn about how he was able to find success as an undersized slot receiver in the league. I think I would gain a lot of important knowledge from him.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Platteville?
I love the family feel. The brotherhood and the camaraderie that exists within the program is incredible and I enjoy being a part of it. I love my teammates and the coaches that we have and it’s a great experience spending a lot of time with those people. Outside of the program, the Platteville community is awesome to interact with and they show great support for the team.
What should we know about Brandt Stare the person?
I think you should know that I’m highly ambitious and I love to work hard toward my goals, my family and friends are very important to me, I try to have a positive impact on everyone around me, and I always look for opportunities to grow in any aspect of life.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
My favorite offensive scheme is the air raid offense. As a receiver, the most attractive offenses for me to watch are those run by the likes of Lincoln Riley and the late Mike Leach, amongst many others. I like how those offenses attack all three levels in the passing game while utilizing short motions and a touch of the run game to keep defenses off balance. I also loved Chip Kelly’s hurry-up, spread offense at Oregon, so I think if I had my own offense, I’d take inspiration from all those coaches/offenses in particular.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Depends on the challenge. Some challenges call for more calculated thought, and others call for sheer forward movement. Either way, I accept challenges for what they are and figure out how to get past them both on the field and in life. Whatever it takes.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get a guy who is willing to make the necessary sacrifices to not only help the team as a whole but continue to improve individually. I am thirsty for knowledge and always looking for ways to elevate my game. No matter what role I’m in I will give everything I have for the team.
What stands out about your film the most?
My route ran in tandem with my speed, my versatility, and football IQ. I can and will get open against all different coverages with polished route running, I have the speed to take the top off and make great things happen with the ball in my hands, I can lineup anywhere on the field and make plays, and I’m able to be creative inside the “rules” of a given play call to find success.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Garrett Stare and Michael Priami come to mind, as two of my teammates on the offensive side of the ball at Platteville. Garrett, as a receiver, is an electric player with great route running, high-point ability, and run-after-catch ability. Priami is a QB with some of the best arm talent in all of college football. Those two haven’t received much attention thus far, but I expect that to change soon. On the defensive side of the ball, Nick Alberico stands out to me. Being a 4-year starter as a cornerback is impressive anywhere, but even more so in the WIAC. He’s athletic, smart, and consistently makes plays.
