NFL’s Super Bowl has 19/20 of the most-watched telecasts ever, but one former sitcom kept them from a clean sweep

“Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” is the title of the final episode of the television series “MAS*H.” It aired on February 28, 1983, and holds the record for the most-watched television broadcast in U.S. history, with over 105 million viewers tuning in.
The episode served as the conclusion to the long-running series, which followed the staff of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War. In “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen,” the characters cope with the imminent end of the war and prepare to return home. The episode is known for its emotional impact and memorable moments as the characters say their goodbyes and reflect on their experiences.
“Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” remains one of the most iconic and beloved television finales of all time, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of fans around the world.
It is pretty amazing that in it’s final episode, they averaged 105 million viewers when the Super Bowl last year hit 123 million. I guess people had nothing better to do than watch MASH back in 1983.
