11-year-old star running back accidentally shot and killed by his older brother
Amir Williams was a superstar in the making. The speedy running back for the St. Pete Lil Devils was shot and killed by his 14-year-old brother.
The 14-year-old brother reportedly found a gun in an alley near his home and brought it home. He accidentally fired the weapon while playing with it.
Police said the gun had been reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in the city on Wednesday. Stolen guns, especially from unlocked vehicles, have been a recurring problem in Saint Petersburg, and there have already been 60 plus reported stolen firearms in 2024.
Police said it’s unclear how the gun wound up in the alley. Police are still investigating.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Mother didn’t know that her 14-year-old son had recently found a gun and that it was inside the home. She was not at home at the time of the shooting.
The report says she was involved in a car crash on Interstate 275 after hearing about the shooting and needed to get a ride home.
