The Final Mock Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Day Edition
“The Jacksonville Jaguars Are Now On The Clock”.
With the start of the 2024 NFL Draft creeping closer and closer, Jaguars fans are still unsure of which direction the team will take when selecting their first-rounder.
The obvious answer is either receiver or cornerback but recent reports suggest Jacksonville could also pivot toward the offensive/defensive line which would most likely cause a riot amongst the fan base.
With that being said, below is my final Jacksonville Jaguars Mock Draft: Draft Day Edition with what direction I believe the team should take when entering one of the deepest drafts in recent years.
FULL JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS MOCK DRAFT
ROUND 1: PICK 22 *Mock Trade With Philadelphia Eagles*
For the past month now, Nate Wiggins has been a player who’s been on my radar when thinking of the positive impact he could bring to the defensive side of the ball when playing opposite of Tyson Campbell.
Wiggins’s speed and play style make him a great fit for the Jaguars who are in dying need of another elite cornerback to complete their secondary. Trading back and still landing Wiggins, absolutely no hesitation at pick 22.
ROUND 2: PICK 48 *Original Pick*
If you watched any Oregon Ducks football games last season you saw Troy Franklin headline the stat sheets week after week. Franklin who ranked third in the FBS with 14 receiving touchdowns has great route running and can also turn on the jets when needed. Making him a true immediate deep threat for Trevor Lawrence (something he hasn’t had in his career so far).
ROUND 2: PICK 52 *Mock Trade With Eagles/Broncos*
Michael Hall Jr.: DL, Ohio State
The defensive tackle position for the Jaguars is thin heading into the draft and Michael Hall Jr. could be an easy solution to that problem.
Although Hall Jr. gets knocked for his size, he’s an extraordinary athlete and will benefit greatly from working alongside Josh Allen and Arik Armstead in mini-camp to help bolster the Jaguar’s defensive line before the start of the new season.
ROUND 4: PICK 114 *Original Pick*
ROUND 4: PICK 121 *Mock Trade With Denver Broncos*
These pair of fourth-round picks have a common theme, PROTECT TREVOR LAWRENCE. Due to a very underwhelming offensive line last year, Lawrence was forced to scramble out of situations he shouldn’t have been put into. Unfortunately, this resulted in three major injuries that hindered his play toward the end of the season (no excuses…).
Although Blake Fisher and Brandon Coleman wouldn’t walk in as day-one starters, they would provide great depth with the chance of sliding themselves into starting roles within their first few seasons.
ROUND 4: PICK 131 *Mock Trade With Kansas City Chiefs*
With rumors of the Jaguars considering their option of a post-June 1st cut on WR Zay Jones that frees up around $7.7M in cap space, adding Javon Baker doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Baker showcased his impressive separation and jump-ball skills at UCF which Jacksonville could utilize in redzone-type situations.
ROUND 5: PICK 137 *Mock Trade With New England Patriots*
Chau Smith-Wade: CB, Washington State
Even though Chau Smith-Wade mostly played an outside cornerback role during his time at Washington State, transitioning to the slot will most likely be in his future as an NFL player. Although the Jaguars will have recently signed safety Darnell Savage to occupy the nickel position this year, Smith-Wade could potentially see some reps during man-coverage situations in which he excels.
ROUND 7: PICK 236 *Original Pick*
Myles Cole could be considered a “college veteran” with six seasons of college football under his belt. Cole does have some promise to develop into a rotational guy. However, competing for playing time over guys like Josh Allen and Travon Walker would be extremely difficult, but one thing we’ve learned about the NFL is you can never have too much depth.
