Top Offensive Performances in Super Bowl Losses

Over the Super Bowl’s extensive history, many players have risen to the occasion leading their team to world championships with unforgettable performances. On the other side there also have been many players who put together incredible games in losing efforts, often failing to earn the recognition they deserve. Here are 6 forgotten SB performances that deserve acknowledgment:
6. Bill Miller, WR, Oakland Raiders SB II
In a 33-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Miller accounted for both of the Raiders’ scores on 5 receptions for 84 yards, he accounted for nearly half of the team’s net passing yards while meeting his season-high in catches. It could have been the only shutout in the game’s history without him.
5. Thurman Thomas, RB, Buffalo Bills SB XXV
In the first of 4 straight SB losses, Thurman Thomas put an impressive rushing performance together. He ran for 135 yards on 15 attempts, if you did not want to do quick math that’s a whopping 9.0 Y/A. If it weren’t for Scott Norwood’s wide miss to the right, there’s a very good chance Thomas is named the game’s MVP.
4. Kurt Warner QB/Larry Fitzgerald WR SB XLIII
Warner completed 31 passes on 43 attempts for a total of 377 yards and 3 TDs. He and Larry Fitzgerald connected 7 times for 127 yards and 2 TDs. James Harrison’s heroic pick-six kept the Arizona Cardinals from bringing home their first title.
3. Demaryius Thomas, WR, SB XLVIII
In a 43-8 beatdown, you wouldn’t expect any noteworthy offensive performances from the losing squad. An all-time Broncos defense failed to show up when the lights were brightest, Thomas seemed to be the only player who showed up with 13 catches, 118 yards, and the team’s only score of the day. Without his efforts, who knows what the score could have looked like that night in New Jersey.
2. Tom Brady QB/Rob Gronkwoski TE/Chris Hogan WR, SB LII
When taking a look back at this game it truly is remarkable the Eagles were able to overcome the New England Patriots when they were at the top of their game. Brady set a Super Bowl record with the only 500-yard passing game while connecting with Gronk for 116 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Hogan also had an incredible day hauling in 6 catches for 128 yards and a score.
1. Tee Higgins, WR, SB LVI
Higgins was the majority of the Bengals offense that day in SOFI. With limited opportunities he capitalized with 100 receiving yards, averaging 25 per reception, and scoring both the Bengals TD’s.
