Patriots special teamer Matthew Slater announces retirement after 16-year NFL Career

Some news that Patriot fans have been expecting since the end of the season, Matthew Slater has officially retired from the NFL after a 16 year NFL Career with the Patriots. Slater was the 153rd overall pick in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. The young wide receiver out of UCLA was an outstanding Special teamer. On special teams as a returner the speedy wideout recorded 34 returns for 986 yards and three touchdowns; Slater would go on to record 34 total tackles on special teams as well.
In the NFL, the former UCLA Bruin WR/ST would go on to have an outstanding NFL Career; The former UCLA Bruin had the chance to play as a return specialist for the Patriots, 35 returns for 637 yards, the Patriots helped him become more of a gunner due to his speed. The change would pan out to be an incredible decision, Slater would go on to record 192 total tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a punt block touchdown.
He is one of the best Special Teamers to ever play in the NFL according to Bill Belichick. Here are few of his many accomplishment:
