Georgia State set to hire their strength and conditioning coach Mike Sirignano as the interim head coach
You cannot make this up. I am not sure I have ever seen this, but Bruce Feldman just reported that the Georgia State football team has decided to hire Mike Sirignano as their interim head coach.
Usually a team will hire an offensive coordinator or a defensive coordinator as their interim coach. The Special Teams Coordinator is even selected some times, but this the first time I have ever seen a strength and conditioning coach getting the gig.
I guess Georgia State needed some juice.
Let’s look at a few things that the strength coach brings which will help the team win right away.
As a strength and conditioning coach, they have a deep understanding of physical fitness, exercise physiology, and sports performance. This knowledge can be invaluable when it comes to training athletes and optimizing their physical abilities.
A good strength and conditioning coach is well-versed in injury prevention techniques. They understand how to design training programs that minimize the risk of injury, which is crucial for keeping athletes healthy and on the field.
Strength and conditioning coaches are accustomed to paying close attention to detail when it comes to form, technique, and performance metrics. This attention to detail can translate well into coaching, where small adjustments can make a big difference in a team’s success.
Strength and conditioning coaches often work closely with athletes on an individual basis, but they also understand the importance of teamwork and camaraderie. They can foster a sense of unity and cohesion among team members, which is critical for success on the field.
After typing all that I think I like the hire! Mike Good Luck, Bring the JUICE!
