2024 Senior Bowl: Media Day Interviews
Every year, the Senior Bowl allows the media, such as the author, alongside national and local outlets, to interview various prospects in a ballroom setting on a set day. Several prospects, like quarterbacks and other big names, get interviewed on a dais. Last week was such an opportunity for a mini Super Bowl-style scrum. Here are the interviews!
Maryland Offensive Tackle Delmar Glaze
– Glaze touched on various topics, including whether he sees himself as a left or right tackle in the pros. He played both spots in college, as it were. The former Terrapin played right tackle before the 2023 season as he bookended current Tennessee Titans’ tackle Jaelyn Duncan. He then switched to left tackle for the past season. Another question he replied to was about the Terrapins’ prospects in a new Big Ten. Glaze was optimistic in expressing his faith in Coach Locksley’s ability to improve annually. When approached about his toughest collegiate blocking assignment, he was emphatic about that player being Detroit Lions’ young standout, Aidan Hutchinson. Mr. Glaze had a great week of practice, which boosted his draft stock heading into the Combine process. Of course, he gives his thoughts on the viral sensation that was the Pop-Tart Bowl (hint: he’s a fan of the classics)
Cal Linebacker Jackson Sirmon
– Sirmon was a late addition after several prospects dropped out due to injury, but he had an outstanding week of practice, showing little rust. He expounded upon what the week was for him and how being a coach’s son (Peter Sirmon is a longtime assistant on the West Coast) helped his transition to the Senior Bowl, among other topics. He also detailed how Cal’s head coach, Justin Wilcox, and defensive staff helped him reach this point. Sirmon also explained that he can play whatever inside linebacker position plus special teams. He’ll even do long-snapper duties at his Pro Day to expand on what he would bring to an NFL team. Mr. Sirmon also discussed his Pop-Tart preferences.
Oregon CB Khyree Jackson
– The Alabama transfer explained the similarities and differences between the two programs and how his transition to Eugene went. Then he explained how difficult the grind is for a Senior Bowl prospect going through the biggest job interview of their lives. Oregon superstar receiver Troy Franklin also received some high praise from the cornerback. A common refrain occurred when he was asked who the toughest coverage assignment was for him (hint: a national title representative.) He reflected on his time with Oregon DC Tosh Lupoi and what the future holds for the Ducks as they go on to the Big Ten. Jackson also answered the Pop-Tart question!
Oregon OL Jackson Powers-Johnson
– JPJ was the most dominant IOL in Mobile, and he was in demand for a number of interviews, so thus the brevity. He briefly explained that he’s center and guard versatile and that one of USC’s linemen was his toughest assignment in college. Powers-Johnson also touched on the impact Oregon’s offensive line coach, A’lique Terry, had on his development as a Rimington Award winner.
Oregon EDGE Brandon Dorlus
– Dorlus was another Ducks defender who had a good showing during the week and boosted his stock. He touched on how Tosh Lupoi and head coach Dan Lanning were instrumental in his development. He mentioned that both coaches were as passionate in real life as they were on TV. The former Ducks EDGE also stated that he doesn’t prefer which position he’d play at the next level. Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti got a great shoutout from Dorlus as well. He was emphatic about the Ducks’ chances
Oregon DB Evan Williams
– The former Fresno State transfer turned Oregon playmaker had a standout week, especially a solid performance in the game, snagging an interception. He deftly answered some questions about the transition to Oregon from Fresno and what that process was like. Williams also stated that Washington’s passing attack was a most difficult assignment. When asked how his brother has helped him in the draft process, he answered that Bennett was very helpful. He then answered that he would play anywhere in the secondary at the next level. Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi again engendered high praise for their passion for the game.
