Former NFL GM says the Russell Wilson trade was the worst trade in NFL history
Russell Wilson is about to be cut by the Denver Broncos. The former Seattle Seahawks quarterback lost his job, and his support with the organization.
The former Seahawks star will likely be cut in March after failing to take a pay cut. The Broncos are not happy with their star quarterback, and Mike Lombardi a former NFL GM was stopped by TMZ and he said that the Russell Wilson trade was the worst trade in NFL history.
“When you add the contract and the trade,” Lombardi said, “it’s the worst of all time.”
Broncos gave up three players, and multiple picks then proceeded to sign the 35-year-old quarterback to a 245-million-dollar extension.
Russell Wilson was just benched for Jarrett Stidham, and I get what Lombardi is saying. The contract associated with the Russ trade will impact the Broncos for years.
Lombardi said prior to the Broncos’ move, there had been other historically bad ones including the Vikings’ infamous 1989 trade with the Cowboys for Herschel Walker but he said “none of those trades had contracts attached to them that impact the salary cap in future years.”
What do you think? Was the trade the worst ever? That is a lot of money to pay a 35-year-old declining quarterback. Mike Lombardi might be on to something here.
