What is next for the New England Patriots after a 10 to 7 loss vs the New York Giants? Patriots sign Wide Receiver Matthew Sexton to Practice Squad
Written by Karver Jordan
The New England Patriots were defeated by the New York Giant 10 to 7. Is this a good thing for New England? The Patriots draft capital can only go up, New England is a top three pick in the 2024 NFL Draft at this point in time. Leaves us with one question, What is next for the New England Patriots?
Bench QB Mac Jones for remainder of Season
These last few seasons with Jones have been dreadful, Mac Jones has been benched multiple of times throughout this season for QB Bailey Zappe. Both struggling quarterbacks would get an opportunity to perform in the “Toilet Bowl” some fans would describe the Giants vs Patriots game. Mac Jones would complete 12 of his 21 passes for only 89 yards with two interceptions, The third-year signal caller would make horrendous mistakes, the errors would lead to Jones being benched for fellow teammate Bailey Zappe. The change appeared to make a difference in the game, the young QB led a drive down the field that resulted in the lone Patriot Touchdown scored by Running Back Rhamondre Stevenson. After the drive that showed so much potential, the hype train would go off tracks after an interception. New England will need to be on the lookout for a new and improved Quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, the QB problems grew bigger after the week 12 matchup.
Patriots Defense performs solid vs New York Giants
New England may appear to be in the Full Tank mode however, their defense did all it could vs the New York Giants. Pass Rush was an issue in this game, it seemed like Giants UDFA Rookie QB Tommy Devito had all day to throw in the pocket. The Patriots Pass Rush would record six sacks however, it could’ve been more. The New England defense did a good job shutting down Giants Running Back Saquan Barkley – Only allowing the RB to have 46 yards on 12 rushing attempts. Pass coverage vs the mediocre New York wide receiving core was solid at some points, the biggest issue was stopping Speedy Wide Receiver Jaylin Hyatt. Devito and Hyatt connected five times and had 109 yards alone vs the New England Secondary. This team is onto the Week 13 Matchup vs the Los Angeles Chargers.
Patriots sign 26 Year Old Wide Reciever Matthew Sexton after a Successful Workout on Tuesday
The New England Patriots have signed 5-foot-10, 176-pound WR Matthew Sexton to the Practice Squad. Sexton played college football at Eastern Michigan and went undrafted in 2021. The speedy wideout would sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the draft. No Stats were recorded in the NFL which led to the Vegas Vipers of the XFL giving the shifty wide receiver/Special teamer a chance. Matthew Sexton recorded 23 receptions for 364 yards and 13 punt returns for 101 yards. After the 2023 Season concluded, the Wide Receiver would get signed by the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots signed the WR to the Practice Squad on Wednesday.

Karvers Final Thoughts:
The New England Patriots are in a tough spot right now but losing can only help them. The more the Patriots keep losing the better the draft pick will be when it comes to the 2024 NFL Draft. Matthew Sexton could be a Punt Returner for New England very soon, he is a speedy wideout who can fly in open space. We are onto the Los Angeles Chargers.
