Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU football programs need to search Junior Colleges and Canada for Diamonds
Historical Black College University football programs could make another innovating change, to create a better recruiting atmosphere for their rich programs.
Many programs have made tremendous progress and some have felt the impact of this new recruiting phenomenon known as the “Transfer Portal”, which definitely shift stars from HBCU football programs. We have seen this quite a bit this year with several players leaving Jackson State following Coach Prime in Colorado.
HBCU recruiting and development has risen to the opportunity for the 2023 Draft class and so on, as long as the NFL continues to step up with all 32 teams at their Pro Days.
Additionally in a recent article of Pittman’s Pocket we described and emphasized HBCU generational talent and how it would have been great to see an Pure Junior from the HBCU football community selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. This has not happened in a while and if players like Travis Hunter was to stay in school he would have likely been a true junior leaving and being selected early in the NFL Draft.
Most Recruiting websites like 24/7 sports, Rivals, and On3 focus heavily on the Transfer Portal that they lack the Database for 2024 Junior College recruits as well as international stars from countries like Canada.
Here at Pittman’s Pocket, we have created that channel for players hoping it can continue to level the playing field in recruiting for HBCU players, coaches, and future recruits. Building the trust with HBCU Coaches can be a great foundation, that can better our chances to continue generational talent as a trend, as much as Isaiah Bolden and Nuggett Warren former Jackson State. Both were 4 stars prospects in this year’s draft, and may end up drafted.
Don’t get stuck into Transfer Portal coaches! There are talented prospects out there, you just have to dig a little more to find them. Let us help you find some diamonds!
