Player Summary:
Glover is in his first year at left guard coming off of starting at left tackle for 3 years. He has excellent size for a left guard and shows flashes of elite strength. He is quick off the line, but tends to shuffle instead of explode out of his stance. Despite the tendency to shuffle, Glover explodes his hands very well to engage and lock into a defender. He uses good leverage to set the edge and open up running lanes yet does not drive his feet in 1-on-1 run blocks. Although the lanes are there, the RBs have little room to cut because Glover tends to be in a standoff at the LOS. Glover shows great vision as you can always see his head on a swivel. In combo blocks, he does a great job at shedding off the DL and picking up 2nd level defenders which makes him great in zone blocking run schemes. In pass pro, Glover picks up blitzes and communicates very well. His biggest weakness is his mechanics, specifically his footwork. Having been moved in from the LT spot, Glover lacks the mechanics of a guard. In pass pro, he tends to shuffle backwards before picking up his rusher. He always seems to make his blocks, just lacks the footwork to finish them. His raw strength and big frame make him a natural guard, but Glover looks uncomfortable at the guard spot. Glover will get better as he continues working on his technique and gets the reps.
Scheme Fit:
Guard/Zone Block Scheme
Power Statement:
Glover has massive size and great strength for the Pro level. He has good leverage, explosive hands, and excellent vision for blocking, but does not drive in run blocks. Glover’s biggest weakness is his footwork. Having not been at the LG spot for long, he lacks the footwork for a guard. He’s a project at LG and has the experience at LT that would make him a solid back up at the next level.
