Player Summary:

RS Sr.  RT starter, has also played LT. Transferred from Grambling State. Massive, big-boned OT with a ton of raw athleticism; has excellent arm length and huge hands. Broad shoulders and thick lower body with lean muscle mass; could add more weight in an NFL strength program. Has a lot of tools but needs to work on the fundamentals of the game to improve. As a pass protector, he is good. Has great feet, displays ability to mirror edge rushers and has a consistent and quick first step. Flashes a good first punch to jolt defenders off track and generally keeps defenders between his feet. Uses his length well and tries to quickly get his hands on defenders. Instincts are up-and-down; sometimes slow to react to twists and stunts. Needs to develop better bend and power angles in his legs. Hand strike timing is good but placement was a little off especially v. KYLO (was around the shoulders too much). Could improve by keeping his elbows tighter at the snap. Will have moments where he will lunge and overextend, winding up on the ground. As a run blocker, he is average. Displays decent leg drive and creates open lanes for ball carriers. Will let defenders get inside leverage and cross his face. Is a decent puller but has a tough time blocking in space, hitting a moving target, and latching onto second-level defenders. Plays with good effort and doesn’t loaf very much. Flaws are fixable with the right coach.

Scheme Fit:

RT.

Power Statement:

Demontrey has a bunch of physical tools – long arms, big hands, lean frame, and sheer size – that are highly desirable for an NFL offensive tackle. His fundamentals and technique in both phases of the game are raw. With the right coach, he can develop into a good NFL player.
