Player Summary:
RS SR and 3 yr full-time starter at ILB where he lines up primarily as a MIKE in the 3-3-5 heavy nickel defense of TXBA. Transferred from IAUN prior to the 2020 season. Possesses very good height and weight with poor speed and a powerful build. He is an ordinary athlete showing solid explosiveness, balance, lateral quickness and agility with adequate acceleration, COD and average play speed. Against the run, he quickly reads run/pass, locates the RB before shedding the block from IOL with poor UOH. Displays solid instincts, lateral quickness and agility in pursuit before exhibiting solid explosiveness in his hips as he makes the tackle in his gap near the LOS or assists on the tackle behind the LOS for a TFL on inside or off-tackle runs. He shows above-average ability in zone coverage as he gets good depth in his drop back and effectively patrols the curl or hook zone while reading the QB. He is average in man coverage as he can cover TE and RB with ordinary AA and play speed down the seam and in the flat respectively. He is good at making the stop on underneath routes on slot WR and TE crossing into his zone due to his solid closing speed in pursuit before making the tackle. He plays with a quality motor as he never takes a play off. Good mental toughness and stamina allows him to elevate his game in the 4th qtr. He plays with solid range against the run and pass but adequate play speed prevents him from getting to the outside and making the tackle in time. He is a marginal pass rusher due to adequate play speed in pursuit of the QB after blitzing through an open gap as well as subpar play strength to quickly disengage from OL in pass pro. Subpar play strength prevents him from quickly disengaging from OL with good length, size, UOH and play strength on reach blocks. Adequate ball skills due to inconsistently getting his hands in the way to disrupt the trajectory of the ball for a PBU.
Scheme Fit:
MLB in 4-3
Power Statement:
Experienced, mentally tough player who is solid in coverage and has quality ability defending the inside run. Lack of quality play speed prevents him from being more productive as a pass rusher.
