Washington Commanders former GM and President Bruce Allen will testify today before the House Oversight Committee
Washington Commanders former President Bruce Allen is going to testify before the House Oversight Committee today, according to multiple reports.
What does that mean? Well, let’s dig into the matter.
It will be a deposition, not an open hearing. Allen is appearing subject to a subpoena, which means that he won’t be able to invoke any potential confidentiality provisions in settlement agreements, contracts, etc.
An NFL spokesperson released a statement on Allen testifying before the House Oversight Committee, saying:
“The Committee is continuing to investigate the decades-long workplace misconduct at the Washington Commanders and the NFL’s failure to address it, Mr. Allen served in senior roles under team owner Dan Snyder for many years, so his testimony is important for the Committee to fully understand these serious issues and advance reforms to protect workers in the future.”
Snyder appeared before the Committee for a voluntary deposition under oath back on July 28. What occurred in that deposition hasn’t been made public yet.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, meanwhile, testified voluntarily and virtually during a Committee hearing on Capitol Hill on June 22.
Allen worked with Washington owner Dan Snyder for nearly a decade. His testimony could potentially shed light on what took place behind the scenes.
It could shine the light into what happened in Washington, and could be fun to dissect.
