Giants new head coach Brian Daboll offense is struggling in practice | Are they testing Daniel Jones in situational football?
The New York Giants are not going to keep Daniel Jones long term unless he has a huge season, but they did not pick up his fifth year option making him a free agent after the season. The Giants young quarterback has shown some growth but has struggled to really find his comfort zone.
Well, the Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is not holding back either. Reporters are saying the practices are so lopsided because the defense is sending blitzes, they are trying to shut down the Giants defense.
Well, Daboll who is an offensive minded guru and showed off his abilities with the Bills was asked about the practices and he seemed to beat the process horse.
“You always want to practice as good as you can,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “On the other hand, I said it was a good practice. I think the defense got a lot of ball disruption plays, knocked the ball out quite a bit, and had a couple of picks. So, that’s why you practice.”
“That’s why we practice,” Daboll said. “We’re all about the process, so if you have a bad day, you regroup, you look at it, you talk about it. Obviously, you want to translate good things in practice to games. We’re evaluating players right now. We’re working through a lot of different schemes. That’s not much different than the last 22 years I’ve been around. But we want to perform well when it counts the most, which is on gameday.”
Obviously, the Giants want to put Daniel Jones in real life situations and him having to make decisions on the fly will definitely help him grow. Can the Giants really get it going under Jones? That is what I feel the Giants are doing. I think they are not sold on Jones, but someone there is. So make him look as bad as possible in practice to go out and get you a better quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo is available and to be honest I think he could be very good in Daboll’s offense. Do you think the Giants are doing this on purpose, or is Daboll struggling to get his offense moving?
