2017 NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes: Patrick Towles, QB, Boston College
2017 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Patrick Towles. QB. 6’5 240 Lbs. (RS Senior) Boston College
The Positives.
1) Has prototypical QB size
2) Good arm strength
3) Good accuracy
The Negatives.
1) Throws too many INT’S
2) Fundamentals need improvement.
Patrick Towles is a QB whom has played his football at the University of Kentucky until he recently transferred to Boston College where he will play his final collegiate season. At 6’5 and 240 Lbs he has the prototypical NFL size for a QB. He has very good arm strength and exhibits good accuracy at all levels of the field. Towles is more athletic than he appears, he ran for 300 yards and 6 TD’S in his Junior year. He needs to improve upon his fundamentals, although they are decent at this point. In 2014 Towles completed 57% of his passes and threw for 2,718 yards, 14 TD’S and 9 INT’S. In 2015 he completed 56% for 2,148 yards, 9 TD’S and 14 INT’S. Patrick Towles is the grandson of HOF pitcher Jim Bunning. Towles has all of the tools one needs to succeed at the next level, but he will need to improve upon his play in order to draw real attention from NFL GM’S. With improved fundamentals his accuracy would improve, and his completion percentage would in theory go up. If he can do that, and cut down on his risk taking, (throw less interceptions and more TD’S), then he could find himself a high draft pick. But as of right now, I have a 4th round grade on him.
